Uganda Fellowship of Reconciliation (JYAK) organizes Youth Camps
Uganda Fellowship of Reconciliation (JYAK) organizes Youth Camps For
the year 2005, The Uganda branch of IFOR, JYAK will have the Multi Cultural
Youth Peace Work Camps which it organizes every year. Late last year they
carried out a research to get perceptions of Ugandans on National Identity.
This topic was chosen after realising that there is a need for National
reconciliation in Uganda. Uganda as a nation is torn apart by conflicts
and wounds of conflicts that have never healed. Because the people cannott
define their identity properly, many fall so easily into their tribal
enclaves rather than Uganda as a nation and their definition of their
national identity is therefore greatly influenced by and defined in tribal
terms. In short, the way Ugandans perceive each other is either recipe
for conflict and confusion or peaceful coexistence. The research report
highlights the need for national reconciliation as a crucial way forward
for strengthening of nationhood and peaceful coexistence. The theme of
the next Multi cultural Youth Peace Work camp this year is based on the
recommendations from the research report
