Implementation of the Quebec Action Plan

Methodological Transfer Workshop in Buenos Aires

From July 23 - 25 an international workshop was held in Buenos Aires. It was part of the Project "Follow-up Strategy of Civil Society after the Implementation of the Quebec Action Plan", which is being coordinated by PARTICIPA Corporation in association with FOCAL of Canada, the Regional Social and Economic Research Coordinator (CRIES) of the Caribbean, the Political Sciences Department of the Universidad de Los Andes (UNIANDES) of Colombia, and FLACSO of Chile. It was sponsored by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the InterAmerican Democracy Network.

The Workshop gathered 21 civil society organizations that belong to the InterAmerican Democracy Network (IDN) and the Regional Social and Economic Research Coordinator (CRIES) with the purpose of starting the implementation of the follow-up strategy of the Quebec Action Plan in subjects related to the strengthening of democracy. The results of the strategy's implementation will be subsequently disseminated and an effort will be made to have an impact on governments.

The workshop‚s specific objectives were:

  • Sharing information about the summit process and about the strategy we have implemented since May 2002 to date.

  • Transferring the methodology and guide of indicators for each one of the follow-up issues.

  • Transferring the methodology and guide to disseminate the results obtained from the follow-up at the national, regional and hemispheric levels.

  • Transferring the methodology and guide in order to have an impact on the results of the follow-up at different governmental and inter-governmental spheres, at the national, regional and hemispheric levels.
