Ifor - Summer Camp

International Gathering

Topic: Human Rights


Program

I) Workshop Topics

  • The Universal Meaning of "human rights"

  • Human rights in the Bible

  • Special: The human rights situation in Latin America and Russia

  • Refugees in Europe

  • Child soldiers

  • Introduction to the Foundations and Working Methods of Human Rights Groups such as amnesty international and Human Rights Watch


II) Visits/Excursions to:

  • Human Rights House, amnesty international, Berlin Refugee Council

  • Asylum in the church

  • Visit to a home for asylum seekers


III) Practical Publicity work

  • Street action (info stand) in Eberswalde and Berlin


IV) Garden work in the Grimnitz Community


V) Additional activities

  • Reports from the participants from their respective countries

  • Excursions to Joachimsthal and surrounding area (Werbellinsee, Biosphere, Chorin cloister)

  • Free time: Games, sports, music, swimming at nearby Lake Grimnitz)

  • Cooking together (intercultural "cuisine"!)

  • Sightseeing in Berlin; boat trip on the Spree River and canals

  • Visits to cultural events in Berlin

  • Planning together a worship service about human rights


Host

July 4-12: Grimnitz Community, Joachimsthal, Brandenburg
A Christian community (60 km north of Berlin) located on an old estate. Foundations of the community are spirituality as a way of life, social activism for peace and justice and active solidarity with neighbors. The estate includes an extensive, attractive garden and area for free time activities, designed according to ecological code.

July 13-19: Martin Niemöller House, Peace Center, Berlin
The peace center lies in the town of Dahlem (30 min. by train to Berlin center), has a large backyard and is ideally equipped for large group gatherings

 

Participants

Young Adults from eastern and western Europe between the
ages of 18 and 26 years

 

Language

German and English. Participants should come prepared to be
patient during bilingual workshops

 

Costs

130,- EUR includes room and board, insurance and registration fees
Additional expenses for public transportation should be paid for by
participants.
