Meeting in Vienna

On 29 Nov. 02, the Human Security Network (HSN) meeting of senior officials, human rights education and children in armed conflict experts took place in the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna, Austria. The purpose of the meeting has been to discuss the progress made in the thematic areas, human rights education and children in armed conflict, selected as priority areas by the Austrian HSN Chair for 2002/2003.

The ETC, represented by Eva Schöfer, Minna Nikolova and Wolfgang Benedek, has been entrusted in Aug. 02 by the Austrian HSN Chair with the elaboration of a Manual on "Understanding Human Rights" and a draft Declaration on Principles of Human Rights Education as a direct contribution to the work of HSN.

ETC has developed the conceptual framework for both human rights education-related initiatives and consolidated a team of Austrian and HSN partners with which the ETC approach has been discussed and endorsed.

During the meeting, it has been once again underlined and reaffirmed that assuring respect for human rights and human rights education in particular is a vital strategy for achieving and enhancing human security.
