"Education for Demoracy International Network (EDIT.Net)" founded

MEMORANDUM

We, representatives of public organizations in the Central-Eastern European, Caucasus and Central Asia countries, realizing the value of improving the public education quality united into the Education for Democracy International Network (EDIT Net).

Our Network is the field for cooperation of independent organizations acting in the sphere of education in their own regions. However, we take into account cultural and national traditions.

EDIT Net’s activity is based on the principles of good will, equality, self-governing, legality and is opened to cooperation.

Dorotowo, Poland
18-22. 09.2002

BACKGROUND

The long-term commitments of FED led to the establishment in Eastern
Europe and Central Asia of an informal international network of trainer teams supporting local communities through civic education. Each team operates on the basis of a local non-governmental organization. Each is independent in terms of program, organization and finances. Comprising over one dozen trainers, the teams are becoming the catalysts for development in their local communities.

The trainer teams operate on the basis of the following local non-governmental organizations: Operating within the framework of the network, in 2001 the trainer teams conducted more than 450 workshops throughout Eastern Europe and Central Asia, in which participants included more than 8500 trainers, leaders of non-governmental organizations, educators as well as representatives of local educational administrations and regional government. A total of 76 workshops were conducted directly with funds obtained by the Foundation and 4 trainers attended internships in Poland.

Now the partners decided to organize themselves in more formal structure. On September 18 - 22 they foundet the "Education for Demoracy International Network" (EDIT.Net).
