as a Foreign Language", Spanish and "German and Comparative
Cultural Studies" at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität
in Munich. In her final diploma-work (1994) she compared the description
of pictures under intercultural comparative aspects.
During her studies she was involved in practical work with foreigners,
offering consulting hours for foreign students and organizing a
day against xenophobia at the university.
After her practical training at the University of Sevilla, Spain
(1991), she taught German to foreigners freelancing at different
institutions (Tandem e.V., Carl-Duisberg-Sprachcolleg, adult education
centers, Goethe-Institut) since 1992.
From 1996 to 2000 Barbara was working in a project of courses for
women, organized by the "Initiativgruppe e.V., Verein für
interkulturelle Begegnung und Zusammenarbeit". These courses
aim at giving foreign women living in Germany a professional orientation
and integrating them into society.
Between 2000 and 2003 Barbara worked as a project assistant for
Viola Georgi at the Center for Applied Policy Research, supporting
the work of the International Network "Education for Democracy,
Human Rights and Tolerance".
