Andrea Sanhueza

Degree in Social Work from the Catholic University of Chile and Masters in Human Settlements and Environment.

Since 1994, she is Deputy Director of Corporación PARTICIPA. From 1999, Andrea teaches "Organizational Management” in Catholic University of Chile.

She has received training from Kettering Foundation in issues related to deliberation for citizen participation.

She has been responsible for the implementation of the following projects at a national level:

  • "Application of a Methodology of Citizen Participation in the Environment Evaluation System” in alliance with the National Commission of Environment;

  • "Design of a Citizen Participation System for tariff setting process” in alliance with the Telecommunications Subsecretary of Chile; and

  • "Citizen Consultation Process for the Definition and Implementation of Regional Policies” in alliance with EMERES and the Metropolitan Government.

She has facilitated workshops in each of these projects and in a workshop entitled "What is the role of the State in Strengthening Civil Society Organizations?" organized for FOSIS in March of 2000.

At an international level, since 1996 she coordinates the work of PARTICIPA in the Inter-American Democracy Network. Since 1997, Andrea has worked in the promotion of civil society organizations in the Summit of the Americas process. In this context, she has coordinated several projects for the Santiago Summit and projects of follow up the mandates of this Summit. Today, she is coordinating a project for the next Summit of the Americas in Canada, which implies being in permanent contact with the Organization of American States, the Canadian International Development Agency, and the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Andrea is member of the Project Advisory Committee of the Inter-American Strategy for the Promotion of Public Participation in Decision-Making for Sustainable Development. In an international level, she has directed several training workshops to NGO and government representatives in issues such as strategic planning, leadership, teamwork and fund raising.
