Zenaida Quezada-Reyes took her Doctor of Philosophy with specialization
in Philippine Studies at the University of the Philippines in 1993.
She finished her Master of Arts in Education with specialization
in Educational Administration at the Philippine Normal University
in 1987. She also completed her Bachelor in Education, major in
Social Science, Magna Cum Laude at the Philippine Normal University
in 1978. She had Spanish Language training from the Foreign Service
Institute of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Philippines and
acquired various scholarships in the course of her studies. The
scholarship sponsored by the German Foundation for International
Development for instance, allowed her to obtain the University Staff
Training on Teaching/Learning, Research Management and Quality Assurance
Management at the Institute of Sociocultural Studies of the University
of Kassel in Witzenhausen, Germany.
Her stint with the university allows her to do the following:

Serves as lecturer, discussant and facilitator in the different
Social Science courses both in the graduate and graduate levels
and other schools and universities across the country;

engages in studies and researches relevant to teacher education,
social studies, indigenous people and women studies;

designs modules for teacher education, local history and teaching
of social science courses;
-
advises graduate students who are working on their thesis and
acts as member of the Panel of Examiners for thesis defense;
-
conducts training and workshops for teachers in the field of
Social Studies teaching, local government, women studies, human
rights (e.g. trainer in human rights in Mongolia, Public Safety
Officers in the Philippines, women's group, urban poor, teachers
and other professionals);
-
evaluates student performance;
-
designs curricular and co-curricular projects for students;
-
organizes trainings, seminars, conferences and lecture forums.
She was invited as consultant for content and instructional design
in Social Studies and local history for secondary school students
and has written books in Social Studies for Elementary and Secondary
Filipino students. She is a regular contributor of articles and
lesson plans in teaching/learning Social Studies in one of the publishing
houses in the Philippines.
She has presented papers in both national and international conferences
on education. Some of the remarkable papers include " Building a
Culture of Peace and Human Rights Among Philippine Public Safety
Officers,"International Conference on Human Rights Education in
Asia and the Pacific Region in Osaka, Japan, November 23-28, 1998;
"Content Analysis of Gender Construction in Asian History Books
for Secondary School Students" , Conference on Asian History and
Culture, Philippine Science high School, Quezon City 22 April 1998;
" Women in Education", Roundtable Discussion on Women and Education,
NCC-Women Sector, Philippine Normal University 28 April, 1998; and
"A Study of Conflict Resolution Strategies of an Indigenous People
of Northern Philippines, 42nd ICET World General Assembly, Bandar
Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, July 3-7, 1995.
She has written articles and researches in doing collaborative
research; Filipino women's status and issues and indigenous people
in the Philippines.
She is at present the Secretary of the Women Studies Association
of the Philippines; member. Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society,
Phi Kappa Phi International Honor Society, Philippine Normal University
Honor Society and member and one term board member, Ugnayang Aghamtao
(Anthropological Society of the Philippines.
Her main areas of interest include human rights education for women,
teachers and indigenous people and teaching/learning the Social
Sciences. Her interest on human rights education started when she
chaired the women's desk of Amnesty Internal Pilipinas in early
90s and from then on became involved with peace and human rights
education until recently with the Institute of People Power and
Development of the Benigno Aquino, Sr. Foundation.
