UMAC is a pro-active, non-partisan, and non-governmental organisation, which primarily operates in the Western and Eastern Cape Provinces. Its main objective is to create a transformed, participatory, democratic and egalitarian civil society in South Africa, which is built on a culture of human rights.

Over the years, UMAC has expandet its monitoring role and has become increasingly involved in the resolution of conflict as a field-facilitating agency, which intervenes in situations of confrontation, and inter-community conflict. It relies on a team of highly capable field workers who are committed to the development of local communities.
