Tolerance - Basis For Democratic Societies In A World of Difference

On the occasion of the International Day of Tolerance proclaimed
by the UNESCO, the Bertelsmann Foundation in cooperation with the
Center for Applied Policy Research (CAP) at the university of Munich
organized a panel discussion in the city hall of Munich.
Basis for a democratic co-existence in a world of difference is
tolerance. For the creation of a democratic culture of tolerance
the work of our educational institutions is especially demanded.
People have to learn to live with the others and foreigners in their
direct neighbourhood. They must learn to respect different nature.
The panel discussion was intended to stimulate the social and political
discussion about tolerance, intolerance and their consequences.
